Lockdown fashion (as I will call it) consisted mainly of loungewear and "comfy clothes". Ultimately, what "comfy clothes" actually is is specific to each individual, but I will look into casual loungewear for the purpose of this research.
Loungewear is the term used to describe a small category of clothing, such as hoodies, jogging bottoms, sweatshirts etc. It can also cover pyjamas and dressing gowns etc, but that is often commercially described as 'nightwear'.
Below is a mind map of the types of loungewear that I found across numerous clothing brands.
Through my research I found that loungewear mainly consists of jogging bottoms, hoodies and sweatshirts. These come in various colours, but the most common and basic form is solid colours, such as the black, grey and lilac shown above. Whilst the majority is plain clothing, you can also find graphics on some items of clothing, such as the NASA top towards the centre. This is quite popular as it adds another layer of customisation to the clothing.
Other loungewear products include footwear, such as socks and shoes. Socks are a common product that is found in any clothing category, from sports to formal wear, however is often combined with the casual outdoor footwear for the ultimate loungewear combo. The most popular of these are the Crocs or sliders, both of which are made of a foam-like material to keep them lightweight, waterproof and simplistic.
For the basis of my project, I will look utilise the range of loungewear explored within this research and focus the visuals on them across the photographic and film products. I will also do some practice shots of the relevant items of clothing that I intend to use so as to maintain a close relation to the research products and evaluate my work at each stage.
