Throughout this project it is crucial that I reflect on each stage of work I produce, comparing them to a set of sample products from my research and inspiration that will enable me to maintain the high quality I wanted to achieve across the board.
Within this post, I will lay out the sample products that I will use to compare each stage of my project to, from photographs to short films. Whilst these samples may sway one way or another in terms of theme, (as it was highlighted in previous posts that I will be producing a combination of the themes covered in my research), I will compare my outcomes to the samples based on the relevant themes.
Photography
(1 - H&M Magazine)
- Sophisticated imagery that has a large budget. Looks premium but does the same job as those below; to promote clothing products.
- Urban settings for this set, applicable to the current season of clothing (at of the time of research).
- The shots feature mainly full-body shots of female models, among other angles and shot distances. (I too will be using a female model across my project)
- Images share a similar aesthetic to each other, given they are part of the same line / article.
(2 - PHUG)
- Stylised imagery that promotes clothing products with a creative and artistic taste.
- Due to being independent, the brand can be more experimental and playful with their content due to not being tied down to a larger corporation.
- Furthermore, the established art style is unique to this brand, creating a refined yet specific customer base. This aesthetic is applied across the brand is not line-specific (as of time of research)
- Various locations and sets are used, shot film-style (either achieved on-camera or in post-production editing)
Short Film
(3 - ASTR - the label)
- High production quality represented through the sharp image, bright colours and general spring / summer aesthetic of the video to fit with the spring campaign aim
- Intro clip shows brand logo
- Slo-mo shots used throughout, either to display a product or model, or purely for effect
- Very model focused, both to convey a sense of beauty when wearing the brand
- Combination of still and moving images
- Short length of 1 minute
Short Clips
Whilst there are various examples of the idea I am planning to work towards, it is difficult to retain a clip due to their frequent use on platforms such as Instagram Stories, where they will last 24 hours then disappear, only to be found by the user who uploaded them.
The style will be similar to the short film above, cut into 10 second segments. This will thus create a quick and snappy montage video for each relevant outfit being shot.
