W1A - Contextual Research

W1A was a comedy television series that aired on BBC 2, created by the BBC as a follow-up to the series Twenty Twelve which was about the 2012 olympics in London. The show's title, W1A, was derived from the postcode of the former BBC broadcasting studios at W1A 1AA.

The show, featuring Hugh Bonneville as the "Head of Values" for the BBC, depicted a team from the company that were focused on reimagining the vision for the BBC and what it should become. It followed the team through various everyday tasks and activities that were required at the company, often trailing off into chaos.

The reason this show links with my own work is because it takes a comedic approach to a professional environment. In regards to promotion and marketing, the show reflects the professional approach within a company with board meetings and brainstorming all whilst adding a chaotic and comedic twist. Similar to my work, I am taking a somewhat comedic approach towards the visual marketing of a fashion line for a brand, taking the trends from the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 and applying them to a high-quality production.

Whilst this TV series is not a direct link to my project, the themes within the show reflect the borderline comedic genre of the content I aim to produce, as well as acting as an established media product that reinforces the ideas.
