Projection Mapping

What seemed to be a complex task of mapping projected images / videos to a surface actually turned out to be a fairly simple After Effects recipe.


We initially started out mapping simple solid-coloured shapes and creating a shatter effect. This made it look like the shape was breaking through the wall, whilst the surrounding area was in darkness.

The above image shows the AE screen used to create the mapped projection. 3 selected videos were applied to 3 surfaces in a mock-up room. I wanted to create a space scene, so all my footage was space themed, with moons, stars and planets.


Following the guidance of Rob, I was able to apply the footage to the allocated surface using tools such as corner pins.


After rendering the timeline the finished render was displayed on the surfaces, as can be seen below:
